For who?

Road carriers’ liability insurance is meant for companies performing carriage of goods by road for reward including international and domestic carriages. Road carriers’ liability insurance is not for companies transporting their own goods.

Why?

Claims arising out of contracts of carriage may be remarkable in monetary terms and may include claims for custom duties and fees, claims for late delivery of the goods etc. in addition to claims related to cargo loss or damage. Claims may be complicated in terms of legal aspects and carrier may not have enough experience to make judgement about the extent or limit of the liability. Contract of insurance also covers legal fees to defence the claim against carrier.
